Steel inside and out

Double Steel Garage Doors

Steel skins on both faces of every panel, for strength, dent resistance and a finished look from inside the garage.

Double steel, sometimes called three-layer construction, sandwiches an insulating core between two steel skins. The second skin is what makes the panel rigid and gives the inside of your garage a finished surface instead of exposed struts.

It is the construction we recommend for wide double doors, for garages you spend time in, and for anyone who has already dented a single-layer door.

  • Steel front and back with a core between
  • Resists dents and flexing
  • Clean finished interior face
  • Pairs naturally with insulation

Where it earns its price

  • 16-foot double openings, where panel flex is most noticeable
  • Garages with kids, bikes and sports equipment
  • Workshops and gyms where the inside of the door is visible
  • Homes on busy streets, where the extra mass cuts noise

What to expect

Double steel doors weigh more than single-layer doors, so the springs are sized accordingly and an aging opener sometimes needs to be replaced along with the door. We check the opener before quoting so there are no surprises.

Questions

Answered before you book.

Is double steel the same as insulated?

Related but not identical. Insulated refers to the core, double steel refers to the second skin. Most double steel doors are insulated, but not every insulated door has a steel back.

Customer reviews

Neighbors who stopped worrying about the garage.

My garage door suddenly broke and I needed someone the same day. EM had someone at my door in less than 2 hours. Work was done perfectly, very nice technician, and a fair price.
